Engin Bekdemir (born February 7, 1992 in Beringen ) is a Belgian - Turkish soccer player .

Career

society

Bekdemir was born in the small Belgian town of Beringen as the son of Turkish workers. The family had emigrated to Belgium from the Turkish Black Sea province of Giresun . Bekdemir grew up in simple circumstances. His father was a miner , his mother a housewife. When he was five years old, he started playing club football from his local club, KVK Beringen .

When he was eight years old, his club took part in a tournament in which the youth teams of such large clubs as PSV Eindhoven also took part. In the game of his team against the youth team of PSV Eindhoven, Bekdemir caught the attention of the talent scouts of Eindhoven. In 2001 he switched to the youth team at PSV Eindhoven. Here he trained with former well-known players such as Phillip Cocu and Ernest Faber . In 2008 he received a professional contract for three seasons, but continued to play for the reserve team of his club.

In 2009 he was scouted by Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa and brought to FC Porto . Here he played and trained for the first year with the reserve team. It was only towards the end of the 2009/10 season that he was also involved in the training of the professional team by the professional coach André Villas-Boas . The season 2010/12 he trained almost exclusively with the professionals and was also mentioned in the squad. However, he did not get any stakes.

Without having played a game for Porto, he moved to the top Turkish league at Kayserispor in summer 2011 . In his first season he was mainly active for the reserve team, but he also completed two Süper Lig games for the professional team.

In the summer of 2014, Bekdemir moved to Çaykur Rizespor within the league .

After just one season, Bekdemir left Rizespor and instead hired from league rivals Eskişehirspor . At this club, he quickly established himself as a regular player and then a top performer. After his club missed relegation at the end of the 2015/16 season and he was thus allowed to leave the club free of charge due to the contract, Bekdemir was associated with clubs such as Galatasaray Istanbul . Contrary to this news, he moved to league rivals Osmanlıspor FK and in January 2019 from here to city and league rivals Gençlerbirliği Ankara . With this club he missed relegation at the end of the season and went with him in the TFF 1st Lig . Here he succeeded with his club the runner-up in the league and thus the direct rise.

When his contract ended in summer 2019, Bekdemir left the capital city and was signed by the second division Altınordu Izmir .

National team

Bekdemir started playing for the Turkish national youth teams at an early age. From the U-15 he went through almost all youth teams. In 2009 he took the Turkish U-17 team at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in part, reaching with his team the quarterfinals.

With the U-19, he took part in the U-19 European Football Championship 2011 , and his team was eliminated from the tournament in the group stage.

He also played once for the second selection of the Turkish national team in 2011 .

In two friendly matches, Bekdemir was nominated for the Turkish U-21 national team for the first time in his career .
