Bill Gunn

Bill Gunn (born July 15, 1934 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † April 5, 1989 in Nyack , New York ) was an American actor , director and writer .

Life

Gunn's 1973 horror film Ganja & Hess was voted one of the ten best American films of the decade at the Cannes International Film Festival . Gunn also wrote the script and starred in the role of George himself.

His drama Johnnas won an Emmy in 1972 . A native of Philadelphia, he wrote more than 29 plays during his lifetime. Gunn has also authored two novels and wrote several produced screenplays.
