Bill McGuffie

Bill McGuffie (born December 11, 1927 , † March 22, 1987 ) was a British easy-listening and jazz pianist and film composer .

Bill McGuffie played in London in the early 1950s a. a. with Kenny Baker , Vic Ash , Ronnie Scott and Jack Parnell in the Melody Maker's All Stars, after he was voted best jazz pianist in the country from 1953-55 (recordings for Esquire Records ). Around 1954 he recorded his first album under his own name (West End Mood) , followed by the Philips album Jazz with McGuffie (1955, with Alan Metcalfe , Jack Collier and Jock Cummings ), with jazz standards such as Just One of Those Things , Sweet Georgia Brown , Yesterdays and Rose Room . In the late 50s he also played with George Chisholm & His Lollie Jazzmen (including Kenny Ball ), in the following decade with Monica Zetterlund (Make Mine Swedish Style) and the Benny Goodman Orchestra and Sextet, with whom he toured in Scandinavia . Under his own name he also recorded a number of easy-listening LPs for Philips and Wing Records , such as Isn't It Romantic (1960), McGuffie Moods (1962) and Pianorama (1969).

During this time he was also active as a film composer for productions such as Daleks - Invasion Earth: 2150 AD (1964), The Leather Boys or Experiments (1972).

In the early 1970s he led a big band and produced an LP with standards such as It's Easy to Remember . In the field of jazz he was involved in 27 recording sessions between 1953 and 1972.
