life and career

Billy Mitchell reportedly set a historic record on July 3, 1999 in Pac-Man . Accordingly, he completed 255 levels with the maximum number of points, without ever being eaten. He collected all bonuses and ate every blue ghost. The maximum possible score is 3,333,360 points and is called a "perfect game" (English. Perfect game ), respectively. Mitchell owns the Hollywood retail chain Rickey's World Famous Restaurant and uses the same brand to sell a variety of hot sauces.

In the documentary film The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters , which is about a record attempt in the game Donkey Kong , he appears alongside Steve Wiebe and other well-known American video game icons.

On April 12, 2018, all of Billy Mitchell's records were removed from the Twin Galaxies high score database and he was outed as a cheater. Furthermore, he is also no longer allowed to set new records.

Controversy over records

Billy Mitchell and Pac-Man (2014).

Billy Mitchell's records were declared invalid in 2018 because they were recorded with the MAME emulator . This applies to Donkey Kong as well as Donkey Kong Jr. This was proven by frame-by-frame analysis, since on arcade machines the images build up from the left and right towards the center when the game is started. In Billy Mitchell's records, however, the objects of the level were set up individually. This confirms the use of an older version of MAME and thus invalidates some records.

In the same year, Billy Mitchell was banned from the Twin-Galaxies website. All of his records were stripped from him in the process.
