Bina Rai (real name: Krishna Malhotra , nee Sarin ; born July 13, 1931 , † December 6, 2009 in Mumbai , Maharashtra ) was an Indian actress .

biography

Bina Rai, who was discovered through a talent competition while studying at Isabella Thoburn College in Lucknow , made her film debut in 1951 in "Kali Ghata" alongside Kishore Sahu , who was also the producer of the film .

In 1953 she played in the film "Aurat" at the side of her fellow actor Prem Nath ( "Barsaat" , " Teesri Manzil "), who was a brother-in-law of the well-known actor, director and producer Raj Kapoor . When she married Prem Nath shortly afterwards, she was related by marriage to the Kapoor family, who was influential in Hindi films . Together with her husband, Bina Rai starred in several other films and together with Prem Nath founded her own production company 'PN Films', which in 1954 produced the first film, "Shagufa". The subsequent films "Samunder" and "Watan" were less successful.

However, she had her greatest successes at the side of Pradeep Kumar with whom she played leading roles in "Anarkali" (1953) and 1963 in "Taj Mahal". For her role in "Ghunghat" (1960) she received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 1961 and was able to prevail against the also nominated Madhubala and Nutan .

Prem Kishen, the older son of Bina Rai, who died of cardiac arrest , is also a co-owner of the TV production company 'Cinevista' in the film industry.
