Connective tissue capsule
In anatomy, a connective tissue capsule ( Latin : anat. Capsula fibrosa ) is the covering of an organ , the coarse shell of which consists of collagenous connective tissue . Such capsules serve the mechanical stability as well as the delimitation of the organs and occur, for example, around the kidney , adrenal gland , spleen , the lymph nodes , thyroid gland , pituitary gland , spinal ganglia , Meissner's bodies , palatine tonsil , etc. In the gonads ( testes and ovaries ) and the erectile tissue of the penis, the connective tissue capsule is called tunica albuginea because of the particularly dense fiber arrangement and the resulting white color . In the liver , connective tissue surrounds the blood vessels and bile ducts, known as the capsula fibrosa perivascularis .
In many organs, branches extend from the connective tissue capsules into the interior of the organs, which subdivide the actual functional organ tissue, the parenchyma , in the form of septa (dividing / septum, singular: septum ) .
Such capsules of connective tissue also form around collections of pus ( abscesses ), around foreign bodies and some tumors after a while . Here they serve to separate healthy tissue.
