Bingumer sand

The Bingumer Sand is a small river island in the Ems in front of the Rheiderländer Ufer near Bingum in East Friesland . It is part of the Emsauen nature reserve between the mouth of the Leda and Oldersum . The Jann Berghaus Bridge is not far from Bingumer Sand .

The naturally formed island is now used as protection for the Bingumer Marina . In summer, the island also serves as a pasture for cows . To protect against sudden storm surges , an approximately two-meter-high elevation was raised. In winter the cows are brought to the mainland by ferry . Until about 1970 high standing masts of the medium-voltage network belonging Overhead line crossing over the Ems on the Bingumer sand. Some brick foundations still bear witness to this today.
