Binz (Maur) is a village in the district of Uster in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland .
Binz is located on the east side of the pan handle near Zurich . The place has belonged to the political municipality of Maur since 1927 as one of five villages . The community part has 1841 inhabitants (2009).
The name Binz comes from the Old High German “pinizze” for rushes , which used to be common here. The village has experienced strong growth since the mid-1990s, when around 550 people still lived here.
