Bioclipse is a free and open source software for bio and chemoinformatics . It is based on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform and was published on November 11, 2005.

As an Eclipse plug-in, settings, help, updates and more are adopted by Eclipse. The Chemistry Development Kit has been included since the first version , a Jmol plug-in for 3D visualization of molecules and a BioJava plug-in for sequence analysis . A connection to the statistical programming language R with StatET and an extension to OpenTox were added later. Other roles include pharmacology and pharmaceutical research, and the Semantic Web for life sciences . The Bioclipse Scripting Language (BSL) is a scripting environment based on JavaScript and Groovy . It was introduced in version 2 in 2009 and enables bioclipse analyzes to be passed on.

Bioclipse is being developed in cooperation with the Proteochemometric Group, Uppsala University and the Cheminformatics and Metabolism Team around Christoph Steinbeck at the European Bioinformatics Institute and includes components from other scientific institutions such as the University of Leiden , the Karolinska Institute and the University of Maastricht . The development is supported by the International Bioclipse Association.
