Protected area management

Since 1987, the BioS initially looked after the NSG " Breites Wasser ", "Torfkanal und Randmoore" and the " Truper Blänken ". This was done through a voluntary care contract with the district government of Lüneburg . In October 1995 the care contract was extended to 12, from 1998 to 13, nature reserves in the Osterholz district. This work was honored with an annual grant from the state. The core of the area management was the monitoring of the characteristic and valuable species groups. BioS was also responsible for public relations in the supervised areas. Numerous information boards have been set up by BioS. An information leaflet was created for a total of nine nature reserves. Maintenance and development plans were drawn up for various nature reserves. After this long-term intensive phase of investigations and observation of the areas, the BioS summarized its knowledge in a general report in 2009. Since 2010 there is a new contract with the district of Osterholz, which is financed by the state of Lower Saxony. BioS should in particular take measures for the particularly rare and endangered species, in particular the species and communities listed in the annex to the nature conservation directives of the EU.

Regional Environmental Education Center (RUZ)

Environmental education has been practiced at BioS since it was founded in 1985. BioS has set itself the task of bringing the people in the region closer to nature and the environment on their doorstep in addition to classic nature conservation. In 1993 BioS became an environmental education center recognized by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture. Every year over 7,000 people take part in BioS environmental education. Bios offers an extensive program for kindergartens and schools of all levels. There are also teacher training courses, lectures and guided tours for adults.

One focus is the Essen von Hier campaign . Here were and are topics of apple juice from the orchard , cereal in the mill , potato planting, harvesting and eating , harvesting honey and eat , milk and eggs from the farm , homemade ice cream for Schleckermäuer and Around chicken .

Coordination Office for Nature Conservation Association Participation (KnV)

Since 2000, BioS has been the coordination point for nature conservation association participation (KnV) in the Osterholz district. The KnV coordinates the participation of the nature conservation associations active in the district in environmentally relevant planning. These are in the district Osterholz, the BUND Kreisgruppe Osterholz , county hunters Osterholz , Regional Sports Fishing Association of Lower Saxony, District 18 , action Fischotterschutz , NABU Kreisgruppe Osterholz , Protection of German Forests LV Nds. , Friends of Worpswede , Heimatverein Platjenwerbe and Action Group Bremer Schweiz .

The obligation for nature conservation and environmental protection associations to participate arises from the Federal Nature Conservation Act (Section 63 BNatSchG) and the Lower Saxony Implementation Act for the Federal Nature Conservation Act (Section 38 NagBNatSchG). In addition, the administration, applicants and politicians often voluntarily involve the KnV in various planning projects. In the case of association participation, the legally recognized associations or clubs receive the planning documents for legislative, planning and administrative procedures and can contribute by providing a statement. The coordination office is to coordinate the statements of the various associations in the differentiated and complex planning processes. This is intended to support the voluntary nature conservation associations in the event of increased time and content requirements, to use synergy effects of the various associations, to improve the quality of the statements and to accelerate the participation process.

Assessment

BioS has been planning and expert assessments of nature and landscape for authorities and the private sector since 1989. Comprehensive protection and development concepts through to differentiated intervention plans are taken over. BioS collects planning-relevant data such as biotope types, flora and vegetation , fauna and animal ecology, landscape, uses, soil, water and air. Success control of measures and monitoring of protected areas are offered. Protection, maintenance and development concepts or plans are drawn up for protected areas. Environmental impact investigations and studies are taken over. Intervention rules and landscape maintenance plans can be made during planning. Plans for the environmentally friendly development of recreational uses are also taken over. BioS takes over the control of projects as well as the implementation of individual aspects. Complex and extensive planning projects are carried out with external employees and in cooperation with planning offices.

Action moor protection

The moor protection campaign has its seat in the BioS . In addition to BioS, the BUND Bremen, BUND Lower Saxony, the Manfred Hermsen Foundation and the NABU Lower Saxony are united in the inter-association for moor protection in Lower Saxony.
