The lake Breites Wasser is a body of water in the urban area of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in Lower Saxony in the Teufelsmoor .

The lake and its surroundings formed the “Breites Wasser” nature reserve (license number: NSG LÜ 53; ordinance date: February 20, 1981), which lay between Worpswede and the village of Teufelsmoor . The nature reserve was added to the " Hammeniederung " nature reserve, which was designated on April 20, 2017, on October 3, 2019 .

The lake is located at the confluence of the Beek and Hamme about 2 km upstream of the Beek. The numerous oxbow lakes of the streams and small, irregular ponds with boggy banks, the so-called Blänken , form a "damp triangle" here, which constantly changes its face due to the changing water levels.

Numerous rare birds breed in this area and there is also a colony of gulls . In autumn and spring, a number of migratory birds also stop here .

A few years ago, numerous paths were laid out for hikers .
