The meadows and pastures northeast of the Breite water are a former nature reserve in the Teufelsmoor district of the city of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the Osterholz district , Lower Saxony .

General

The former nature reserve is located immediately south of the village of Teufelsmoor and north of the Hamme River . It was immediately adjacent to the " Breites Wasser " nature reserve, which was previously under protection and was placed under protection on August 2, 1987 by the Lüneburg district government . The area of ​​the protected area was 153 hectares. The area carried the statistical code NSG LÜ 153. On October 3, 2019, it appeared in the “ Hammeniederung ” nature reserve, which was designated on April 20, 2017 .

The former protected area is part of the extensive grassland lowlands on the Hamme. It is wet grassland, which has thick reed beds in the existing ponds and ditches . The lower-lying areas are regularly flooded every year and can only be used to a limited extent.

According to Section 3 (1) of the Protected Area Ordinance, the special protection purpose consisted of the “maintenance and development of the extensively used wet grassland with its widely ramified ditch system located in the wetland of national importance Hammeniederung (...) on high moor in the transition to low moor ”.

Flora and fauna

In the former protected area there are a number of rare plant communities that are worth preserving, such as B. Crab claw societies , spawning herb societies , large sedge and small sedge, reed beds and wet meadow communities and for endangered plant species.

The area receives its faunistic importance from its function as a breeding, feeding and resting biotope of partly threatened and endangered bird species, which are particularly adapted to such humid lowlands, especially as an internationally important resting place for pygmy swan and pintail . Other protected areas

About 147 hectares of the former protected area belonged to FFH area No. 33 (Untere Wümmeniederung, Untere Hammeniederung with Teufelsmoor) and about 149 hectares to EU bird protection area No. 35 (Hammeniederung).
