description

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 313 is around 1,927  hectares in size. Partly it is also designated as the FFH area "Untere Wümmeniederung, lower Hammeniederung with Teufelsmoor", which extends over 4,153.32 hectares and also includes parts of the " Hammeniederung " nature reserve to the south , and as an EU bird sanctuary "Hammeniederung", which is extends over 6,296 hectares and also large parts of the "Hammeniederg" nature reserve and the adjoining to the southeast by the nature reserve "devil's Moor" conservation area "Hamm depression" includes. The nature reserve borders in many cases on the "Teufelsmoor" nature reserve and in the south on the " Beekniederung " nature reserve . At the crossing of the state road 153 with the Beek , the nature reserve borders in a narrow strip on the nature and landscape protection areas "Hammeniederung". Parts of the former “Hamberger Moor” landscape protection area have risen up in the reserve. The ordinances of the nature reserve " Moor bei Niedersandhausen " in the west and the nature reserve " Torfkanal und Randmoore " initially remained in force. These protected areas became part of the nature reserve on October 3, 2019. The area has been under protection since April 20, 2017. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Osterholz.

The nature reserve, which consists of four partial areas, is located northeast of Osterholz-Scharmbeck on the edge of the Hamme valley. It includes parts of the Lower Sandhausen Moors, the Hamberger Moor, parts of the peripheral moors of the peat canal, the Günnemoor , parts of the Önersmoor, parts of the White Moors, the moor between Friedensheim and Bornzeile as well as parts of the upper Beekniederung. The nature reserve, together with the nature reserve “Hammeniederung” and the adjacent nature reserves, form a biotope network.

Large parts of the raised bogs were different depths in the past abgetorft , but usually not cultivated , then that fracture and bog forests, swamps , ranging structured grassland could train. Partial areas were rewetted . This applies in particular to the Günnemoor, which has been rewetted over a large area. The rewetting of pitted areas began here in the 1990s. Industrial peat mining was stopped at the end of 2012 after no further mining permits had been granted in Günnemoor. Further rewetting measures were carried out in the Hamberger Moor. However, this is much cooler - unlike in the Günnemoor, rural hand peat digging took place here until the 1980s - and in many cases it consisted of bog forest. In the course of the rewetting measures, drainage ditches were closed and the water retention caused former manual peat cuttings to fill up. In particular in the area of the rewetting areas in the nature reserve, the raised bog can regenerate so that semi-natural raised bog vegetation can be found here. In the upper Benk lowlands and parts of the Önersmoor there is extensive, often moist grassland, which is criss-crossed by numerous ditches.

The nature reserve borders in many cases on agricultural areas , and in places also on wooded areas, most of which are designated as the "Teufelsmoor" nature reserve . In the south it borders on a state road in the area of the Beekniederung. The area between Friedrichsheim and Bornzeile borders on the district road that runs through Friedrichsheim . Paths run through parts of the nature reserve. A path runs between the former peat extraction area in Günnemoor and the nature reserve “Peat Canal and Randmoore” to the southwest. It is accessible from mid-June to the end of September and from which the rewetting areas can be viewed. Several display boards with information on the subject of bog and bog cultivation were set up along this path.
