The Springmoor nature reserve is located in the municipality of Vollersode, part of the Hambergen municipality in the Osterholz district .

General

The Springmoor nature reserve has a size of approx. 107 hectares and was placed under nature protection in 1977 by the Lüneburg district government . It has the statistical designation "NSG LÜ 70".

According to the Lüneburg district government, it was placed under protection "for the preservation and development of a diverse habitat of the dry geest landscape, the geest moors and the brook lowlands with their special flora and fauna".

The area encompasses a diverse landscape on the Giehler Bach, as the upper reaches of the Hamme are called here. In the west there are pine forests and large, well-preserved sandy heaths, in the east and south the terrain slopes down towards the stream. Due to the groundwater here, the spring moor has formed, which is now partially drained and consists of moorland, moor birch and birch quarry forest.

In the sand heathland dominated heather that characterizes with its characteristic bloom in late summer the landscape.

In order to preserve the heathland, maintenance measures are carried out in the protected area to prevent grass formation and shrub cover. For this, the topsoil is with the existing vegetation abgeplaggt . Young heather plants grow back on the raw soil.

In the east of the area, the Giehler Bach was previously dammed to power a water mill. This traffic jam was lowered and parts of the former mill pond fell dry and were converted into grasslands. Alder break forest and willow bushes could form in some areas.

Flora and fauna

In the heath three broom species which come broom , the English broom and the Hairy broom before.

In the bog areas in the eastern part of the area, a bog heather can be found in which whistle grass , bell heather , peat moss , cranberries and sundew occur. The sand heather favors the occurrence of heat-loving animal species. Especially when the heather is in bloom, many insect species visit the heather to forage.

These in turn form the food basis for reptiles such as the forest lizard and slow worm . The snake species adder , grass snake and smooth snake have also been observed in the area. These feed u. a. of the amphibian species native to the area , the common frog , moor frog , pond frog and common toad . The thread newt is also found here.

Other categories of protection

The nature reserve is in the area of ​​FFH area 34. It is surrounded by the Giehler Bach nature reserve and is close to the Heilsmoor nature reserve .
