The Heidhofer Teiche nature reserve is located in the villages of Meyenburg and Eggestedt in the Schwanewede municipality in the Osterholz district in the Heidhof forestry area .
General
The NSG Heidhofer Teiche consists of two zones. Zone 1 is made up of six ponds itself, Zone 2 is the forest area owned by the State of Lower Saxony , which is to develop as a near-natural oak-birch forest. The ponds appear as a moored area; The cause of the bog is the groundwater that emerges as a spring. A thin layer of raised bog has partially formed on the existing fen . The peat thickness is up to 100 cm. The protected area has a size of 21 hectares and was placed under nature protection in 1985 by the Lüneburg district government .
nature
The ponds have nutrient-poor water with little depth; In the shallow water zones, silting vegetation had developed from rushes, sedges and peat moss. In the vicinity of the water bodies, typical high moor species grow, with a part of the valley floodplain being taken over by gale shrub bushes and pipe grass meadows with former peat cuttings.
The area is of great importance for endangered animal species, especially bird and dragonfly species.
Other protected areas
The nature reserve is in the area of FFH area No. 222 Garlstedter Moor and Heidhofer Teiche and is completely surrounded by the "Schmidt's Kiefern und Heidhof" nature reserve .
