Untere Wümme is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Lilienthal and Ritterhude in the Osterholz district .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 164 is 191 hectares. It is completely part of the FFH area "Untere Wümmeniederung, lower Hammeniederung and Teufelsmoor". The area has been a nature reserve since May 16, 1988. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Osterholz.
The area includes the lower reaches of the Wümme below Lilienthal to the confluence of the Wümme and Hamme between the state border with Bremen in the middle of the river and the Wümmedeich. It connects directly to the nature reserve of the same name on the Bremen area and forms a contiguous protected area with it. North of the dike is the St. Jürgensland, a wet meadow landscape and originally the Wümme floodplain. The “ Borgfelder Wümmewiesen ” nature reserve on the Bremen area connects to the east .
The meandering, tidal lower course of the Wümme is characterized by extensive reed areas and willow riparian forest as well as freshwater mudflats . It is of great importance as a connecting link between the upstream Fischerhuder and Borgfelder Wümmeniederung and the northwestern Hammeniederung. A total of ten formed within the dike located in dam failures between the 14th and 18th centuries scours are included in the nature reserve.
