The Pennigbütteler Moor is a former nature reserve east of the village of Pennigbüttel in the city of Osterholz-Scharmbeck in the Osterholz district .

General

The former nature reserve is around 185  hectares and was placed under nature protection by the Lüneburg district government on November 2, 1985 . It had the statistical designation "NSG LÜ 129". The purpose of the protection was the “preservation and development of typical bog flora and fauna, in particular several species of birds, amphibians and reptiles adapted to the raised bog biotope, in some areas the promotion of a growing high bog cover; The moor birch forest is to be preserved in the peripheral areas. ”On October 3, 2019, the area was incorporated into the“ Hammeniederung ”nature reserve, which was designated on April 20, 2017.

In the Pennigbütteler Moor, hand peat cutting has changed significantly compared to its previous state . In the now lower lying areas, grasslands of different intensity of use occur. Unused areas are dominated by flutter rush occurrences . As far as the areas were not cultivated, they now show pipe grass , nail bush and birch . In wet areas and peat cuttings, peat mosses indicate peatland regeneration. Peat banks that have not been dismantled are covered with birches and individual pines.
