Biomyxa is a genus of amoeba from the Cercozoa tribe.

features

The representatives of the genus are amoeboid protists and have stiff pseudopodia that can branch and network. There are cysts . The amoeba can contain one or more cell nuclei .

With regard to the ultrastructural features, it is not certain that they are really representatives of Biomyxa : The mitochondria have tubular cristae . The cells contain dark inclusions. The microtubules of the pseudopodia are not arranged geometrically.

Systematics

The exact systematic position of Biomyxa is unclear due to a lack of molecular genetic studies. Bass et al. placed them in 2008 in the group of Proteomyxidea, which is explicitly described as paraphyletic . According to Patterson, they could also be closer to the foraminifera .

The species number of Biomyxa is indicated by Patterson as small and uncertain.
