Funny guys ( Russian Весёлые ребята ) is a slightly ironic musical mix-up comedy that is considered the first Soviet film musical.
In 1934 , Grigori Alexandrow , the former assistant and co-author of Sergei Eisenstein , who had accompanied his teacher on his travels to the West and there also got to know Hollywood film production, realized the jazz comedy Funny Boys with the music of Isaak Dunajewski and Probably at that time the most famous Soviet jazz musician, Leonid Utyosov , for whom the main role of the film was tailored.
The film does not focus on the plot, so it is more of a loosely connected sequence of musical numbers. Just like in the American film musical, the main characters are particularly keen to bring their music to the stage successfully in the metropolis. In the film, a musically versatile shepherd is mistaken for a well-known composer by several visitors looking for relaxation in a glamorous seaside resort in the Crimea. The shepherd Kostja Potechin comes from the south, from the Crimea, to Moscow, ends up in the Music Hall there almost by accident and can even appear in the Bolshoi Theater with his friends .
