Jul / 21st March  1895 greg . in Odessa ; † March 9, 1982 in Moscow ) was a popular jazz singer, band leader and actor in the Soviet Union .

Life

Ulyossov was born in 1895 to a Jewish family in Odessa . From 1911 he made his first artistic steps with a theater with which he traveled across the country and also appeared in Moscow and Leningrad . At the end of the 1920s he built his first jazz orchestra. His first venue was the Small Opera in Leningrad, where he celebrated his first major successes. In the following years, Ulyossov was the charismatic leader and front man of his bands. In 1934 he appeared in Funny Boys , the Soviet Union's first film musical. Even after that, Utjossow appeared regularly in films as an actor.

He covered a wide range of musical genres: jazz (especially the swing style of the 1930s) was just as much a part of it as Soviet light music ( Estrada ), film music and recordings with so-called crook chansons .

On May 9, 1945, he performed alongside other musicians on Red Square in Moscow at the victory celebrations at the end of the Second World War. He was an active musician until the end of his life. To this day he is one of the most important artists in the first decades of the Soviet Union.

In 1965 he received the People's Artist of the USSR award . In 1982 Ulyossov died in Moscow.
