Vasily Lebedev-Kumach ( Russian Василий Иванович Лебедев-Кумач ; scientific. Transliteration Vasilij Ivanovich Lebedev Kumač ; July 24 * . Jul / 5. August  1898 greg. In Moscow , † 20 February 1949 ) was a Soviet song writer, Estrada hit songwriter , satirist and screenplay writer.

biography

Lebedev-Kumach worked from 1919 to 1921 in the press office of the Revolutionary Military Council (Реввоенсовет) chaired by Leon Trotsky and for the propaganda department Agit-ROSTA. He studied at Moscow State University and made a name for himself as a writer of satirical poems, short stories and essays, which were published in various newspapers and magazines and as his own collections. He wrote for the stage and for the sound film, especially song lyrics.

Lebedev-Kumach is considered to be one of the founders of the genre of the Soviet mass song. Many of his songs became known throughout the Soviet Union, some even internationally: Марш весёлых ребят (1934), Песня о Родине (1936; both to melodies by IO Dunajewski ), Гимн партики маски Мольшевикосв and Мольшевикосв Мольшевикосв .

Two days after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, Pravda and Der Rote Stern (the newspaper of the Red Army ) published a poem by Lebedev- Kumach with the title Священная война ( The Holy War ), which was published a few days later by AA Alexandrow was set to music and premiered and soon became the "war anthem of the Soviet Union". In 1941 he received the State Prize of the Soviet Union .

Many of Lebedew-Kumatsch's songs were copied in numerous languages, including German (by Stephan Hermlin and Erich Fried, among others ) and Chinese.
