Biplace paraglider in flight

A biplace (from Latin bi = two and French place = place, thus a two-seater ) or tandem paraglider is a paraglider for the transport of two people, which has a larger area of the canopy (approx. 42 m²) and therefore also for one can transport larger weights (up to 250 kg). Sometimes flying in pairs is generally referred to as “biplace” .

In order to be allowed to pilot a biplace glider, a separate, strict test must be taken. Passengers do not need any training and receive precise instructions for take-off and landing from the pilots.

Biplace flights are a simple and inexpensive way for “pedestrians” to get to know the world of paragliding . Therefore, in most of the tourist resorts in the Alps, it is also possible to examine the area from the air with a biplace flight. Such flights take between 15 minutes and 3 hours (thermal flight) and cost between 70 and 160 euros (as of 2009 ) , depending on the passenger's imagination , the available budget and the prevailing updrafts .
