The Bird Saddle , along with the Terra Nova Saddle and the Terror Saddle, is one of the three distinctive mountain saddles on the Antarctic Ross Island . It runs at an altitude of 800 m between the 1765 m high Mount Bird in the north and the 3794 m high Mount Erebus in the south.
It is named after the mountain of the same name. Its namesake is Lieutenant Edward J. Bird of the HMS Erebus , one of the two ships in the British Antarctic Expedition (1839-1843) under the direction of James Clark Ross .
