Birgit Kehne

Birgit Kehne (* 1957 in Hameln ) is a German historian and archivist . Since 2002 she has headed the Osnabrück State Archives and the Osnabrück location of the Lower Saxony State Archives .

Life

Kehne studied German and history at the Universities of Hanover and Göttingen. In 1990 she received her doctorate in Göttingen. After completing her archive clerkship (1991–1993), she was a consultant at the Lower Saxony Main State Archives in Hanover and from 1997 to 2002 deputy head of the “State Archives Administration” department of the Lower Saxony State Chancellery. In 2002 she took over the management of what was then the Osnabrück State Archives.

She is chairwoman of the society for history and regional studies of Osnabrück, spokeswoman for the working group "history" of the Emsland landscape , member of the historical commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen and of the advisory board of the whole society of the german historical and antiquity societies . In 2004, Kehne was elected a corresponding member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . In addition to archival technical issues, her academic focus is on regional history in western Lower Saxony and cultural-historical topics.

She has been the editor of Archiv-Nachrichten Niedersachsen since 1998 , since 2003 she is editor of the Osnabrücker Mitteilungen .
