Birgit Liss

Birgit Liss (born April 29, 1971 in Flensburg ) is professor for applied physiology at the University of Ulm .

Life

Birgit Liss grew up in Schafflund near Flensburg. She began her studies in biochemistry / molecular biology in 1990 at the University of Hamburg and graduated in 1995 with a diploma. From 1996 to 1999 she worked at the Center for Molecular Neurobiology Hamburg (ZMNH) . There she was in 1999 with summa cum laude with a bases-topic for research into Parkinson's disease doctorate . She then worked at the University Laboratory of Physiology and MRC Anatomical Neuropharmacology Unit at the University of Oxford until 2002 . In 2002 she was named "Woman of the Year" by Burda Verlag . In 2003 she took up a position as junior professor at the Philipps University in Marburg at the Institute for Physiology . Since 2005 she has also headed a TransMit project area for cell-specific gene expression analyzes at the Gesellschaft für Technologietransfer mbH . In April 2007 she followed the call to the Institute for General Physiology at Ulm University. In the same year she was awarded the Alfried Krupp Prize for Young University Teachers endowed with one million euros . Since September 2010 she has been head of the Institute for Applied Physiology at Ulm University.

On January 19, 2015, Liss was a candidate for the TV quiz Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? on RTL and won 16,000 euros.
