Birgit Meineke (Germanist)

Birgit Meineke (* 1956 in Schötmar ) is a German German philologist and name researcher .

Life

Birgit Meineke was born in 1956 in Schötmar, today a district of Bad Salzuflen . In 1975 she graduated from the Marianne-Weber-Gymnasium in Lemgo . From 1975 to 1980 she studied German , Protestant theology and history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 1981 she passed the first state examination for teaching at secondary level I and II . In 1982 she did her doctorate .

Between 1981 and 2004 Birgit Meineke worked on the research project Old High German Dictionary at the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen . Since 2005 she has been working on the research project Place Names between the Rhine and Elbe - Onomastics in Europe. (Westphalian book of place names of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen). Meineke is an expert in the field of scientific onomastics and has published several books on her research.
