Birgit Pelke (born May 8, 1961 in Rüsselsheim ) is a Thuringian politician ( SPD ). She was a member of the Thuringian State Parliament from 1994 to 2019 and was Vice-President of the State Parliament from 2004 to 2014.

education and profession

After graduating from high school in economics and administration in 1979, Birgit Pelke worked between 1980 and 1984 as an administrative clerk in the press and tourism office of the Rüsselsheim city administration.

From 1984 to 1991 she was managing director of the SPD sub-district Groß-Gerau . Between 1991 and 1994 Birgit Pelke was the state manager of the SPD in Thuringia.

Birgit Pelke joined the SPD in 1979. From 1981 to 1991 she was a member of the Groß-Gerau district council. She has been a member of the Erfurt City Council since 1999 .

Since the state election in Thuringia in 1994 , she was a member of the state parliament. She always entered the state parliament via her party's state list. My constituency in the parliamentary elections of 1994 to 2009 the state election district Erfurt I .

In 2004 Birgit Pelke became Vice President of the Thuringian State Parliament and a member of the parliamentary committee. She was also represented in the working group for social affairs, education, science, culture and media and in the working group inside, justice, communal matters and housing . Birgit Pelke was a member of the Petitions Committee in parliament .

In the state elections in 2014 , Pelke initially lost her mandate in the Thuringian state parliament, as her 13th place on the SPD state list was barely enough for re-election. As a direct candidate in the Eichsfeld I constituency , a traditional CDU stronghold, she only received 6.7 percent of the first votes. As a replacement for Hartmut Schubert , she moved back into the Thuringian state parliament in December 2014. Until her resignation in June 2019, she was vice-chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament. In the state elections in Thuringia in 2019 , she lost her mandate.

Other offices

Birgit Pelke has been state chairwoman of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Thuringia since November 1995 and chairwoman of the Erfurt City Sports Association since October 2001.
