Birgit Schatz (born December 9, 1969 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian politician ( The Greens ). From 2006 to 2017 she was a member of the National Council .

Education and training

Birgit Schatz attended the elementary school Schüttdorf / Zell between 1976 and 1980 and then completed secondary school in Bruck an der Glocknerstraße by 1984 . After secondary school, Schatz attended a higher federal college for economic professions in Saalfelden , which she graduated in 1989 with the Matura. From 1989 to 1993 she studied art history at the University of Salzburg and from 1990 to 1997 political science as well as journalism and communication studies at the University of Salzburg, which she obtained with the title Mag. Phil. finished.

Professional and political career

Birgit Schatz has worked on scientific projects since 1993 and between 1997 and 2000 took over the management of the ÖH advisory service at the University of Salzburg. She was also a representative of the field of study , speaker of the ÖH Uni Salzburg and deputy social officer of the University of Salzburg.

Between 2000 and 2006 she was regional manager of the Greens Salzburg . In October 2005, Schatz took first place in the internal elections of the Salzburg Greens for the list for the 2006 National Council elections. She was elected with 55% in the first ballot and prevailed against Heidemarie Rest-Hinterseer, an active member of the National Council at the time . She has represented the Greens since October 30, 2006 in the National Council, to which she was elected via the Salzburg state list. She was employee spokeswoman for the Green parliamentary group in the National Council and her main focus was on social and educational policy. Birgit Schatz was also a main member of the Labor and Social Affairs and Science and Tourism committees. She was a substitute member in the committees for economy, education, home affairs, national defense, the Ombudsman Board and the European Union.
