Birgitta Valberg

Birgitta Valberg (born December 16, 1916 in Stockholm , † March 29, 2014 ) was a Swedish actress .

life and career

Her parents were the lecturer Paul Valberg and Gunborg, geb. Ahlin. Birgitta Valberg passed her student exam ( school leaving certificate ) in 1935 and studied at the Dramatens elevskola from 1940 to 1943 .

Valberg played a total of 137 theater roles over a period of 60 years at the Royal Dramatic Theater in her hometown Stockholm . She worked with well-known stage directors such as Alf Sjöberg , Olof Molander and Ingmar Bergman . She often played classic roles such as Medea .

Valberg became internationally known for her roles in films by Ingmar Bergman , beginning with Hafenstadt in 1948. Her most important Bergman role was that of the loving mother who loses her only child in the medieval revenge drama Die Jungfrauenquelle . Birgitta Valberg was also subscribed to maternal roles in other film and television roles. In 1977 she won the national film award Guldbagge in the category Best Actress for her appearance in the film Ein Paradies , directed by Gunnel Lindblom . In 1992 she played the grandmother in Die Sonntagskinder , a film directed by Ingmar Bergman's son Daniel, in which Ingmar Bergman's childhood is dealt with in an autobiographical manner. In total, Valberg played in around 60 film and television productions between 1934 and 1996.

Valberg was married to the functionary Hans Hansson (1907–1976) from 1939 until his death; the couple had three children. She died in March 2014 at the age of 97.
