Gunnel Märtha Ingegärd Lindblom (born December 18, 1931 in Gothenburg - † January 24, 2021 ) was a Swedish actress , director and screenwriter . She was one of Ingmar Bergman's longstanding artistic companions .
Life
Gunnel Lindblom grew up in a class-conscious working-class family. At the age of twelve she began to play in a communist youth club, from 1950 she attended the drama school of the Gothenburg City Theater . Lindblom's film work began in 1952 under Gustaf Molander with Kärlek . Ingmar Bergman engaged her in 1954 for the city theater in Malmö , where she stayed until 1959, and cast her repeatedly in his films. The Silence (1963), her only leading role for the director, became a scandalous success because of its openly erotic scenes. Loving Couples (1964) by Mai Zetterling also caused a sensation. From 1968 Bergman and Lindblom continued their collaboration at the Royal Dramatic Theater .
From the 1970s Lindblom also worked as a theater director. With Ein Paradies (1977) she wrote and directed her first feature film, produced by Ingmar Bergman's company "Cinematograph". In 1990 she made her debut as an opera director with Wilhelm Stenhammar's Das Fest auf Solhaug . In 2004 she took over the radio production of Bergman's adaptation of the Ibsen drama Rosmersholm .
Gunnel Lindblom was married to Sture Helander, who was also Ingmar Bergman's doctor.
