Birkland is a district of the Markt Peiting in the Weilheim-Schongau district in Upper Bavaria .

Birkland is a settlement in the Pfaffenwinkel in the Upper Bavarian Alpine foothills , east of the Lech , and lies between Landsberg am Lech , Schongau and Weilheim .

history

Birkland is first mentioned in a document in 1130 under the name Pirkwang . The area of ​​today's Birkland then belonged to the Wessobrunn monastery .

Birkland became an independent municipality in 1818, which belonged to the district court of Schongau .

On January 1, 1976, Birkland was incorporated into the market Peiting as part of the municipal reform.

Attractions

In 1715 Dominikus Zimmermann designed an altar for the Gothic chapel of St. Anna. This altar now stands as the high altar in St. Anne's Church.
