Bischhagen is a district of the Thuringian community Hohes Kreuz in the district of Eichsfeld .
Geography and traffic
Bischhagen is located about five kilometers northwest of Heilbad Heiligenstadt on the red sandstone plateau of the middle Eichsfeld on the Thuringian state road 1005 and the German fairy tale route near the Lower Saxony- Thuringia border. Surrounding places are Siemerode , Streitholz in Thuringia and Vogelsang in Lower Saxony. The Grimmelbach flows through the local area. Bischhagen is predominantly agricultural .
Bischhagen can be reached via the “ Heilbad Heiligenstadt ” junction on federal motorway 38 . The next train station is also in Heiligenstadt.
history
Bischhagen was first mentioned in a document in 1445. Until the secularization , Bischhagen and the surrounding places belonged to Kurmainz . Later they were part of the Saxony Province of the Kingdom of Prussia. After the Second World War , Bischhagen was part of the Soviet occupation zone . From 1949 until the reunification , Bischhagen belonged to the GDR and from 1954 until the reunification and reunification in 1989/1990 was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border . In 1990 the independent municipality became part of the new federal state of Thuringia.
On January 1, 1991, the communities of Bischhagen, Mengelrode , Siemerode and Streitholz merged to form the new community of Hohes Kreuz, which has been part of the Leinetal administrative community since January 2, 1992 .
The church, built in 1731, still exists today. Around 180 people currently live in the village.
