Bismuth subchloride is a chemical compound from the group of chlorides . It used to be incorrectly referred to as bismuth (I) chloride. In addition to Bi 6 Cl 7 , Bi 7 Cl 10 is another known bismuth subchloride, which is difficult to synthesize.

Extraction and presentation

Bismuth subchloride can be obtained by reacting bismuth with molten bismuth (III) chloride or by reacting bismuth (III) chloride with potassium chloride at 250 ° C. The compound was first synthesized in 1973 by RM Friedman and JD Corbett.

properties

Bismuth subchloride is a black solid. It has an orthorhombic crystal structure with the space group Pnnm (space group no. 58) . Template: room group / 58
