The diocese of Wanzhou ( lat . : Dioecesis Uanscienensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Wanzhou in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Vicariate Wanhsien on August 2, 1929 from cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate Chongqing . With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised to the diocese on April 11, 1946.

On January 10, 2001, Bishop Matthias Duan Yin-ming, one of the last living bishops, died by Pius XII. were ordained bishop. He was succeeded by Bishop Joseph Xu Zhixuan, a former coadjutor bishop since 1989, who was officially recognized by the state and who died on December 8, 2008. The current bishop of the diocese is Paul He Zeqing, former coadjutor bishop since 2005.

In 1998, Matthias Duan Yin-ming Xu Zhixuan and Joseph Xu Zhixuan were invited to attend the Synod of Bishops' Special Assembly for Asia, but the Chinese government refused permission to leave the country.
