geography

Bittelbronn is located about four kilometers north-west of Möckmühl on a ridge north of the Jagst valley between the Seckach and Sulz valleys .

history

The place name is based on the establishment of the place by a "Büttel", d. H. a bailiff of the central court in Möckmühl , around the year 1000. The place was royal or imperial property like Möckmühl and essentially shares its history. The mark of Bittelbronn came under the sovereignty of the Diocese of Würzburg in 1042 and later as a fief to the Lords of Dürn and from them to the Counts of Hohenlohe . Bittelbronn was first mentioned in a document from Odenheim Monastery from 1161. In 1334 the early knife in Hohbach sold his goods in Bittelbronn to the Schöntal monastery . In 1445 the Electoral Palatinate acquired the place, but lost it in 1504 in the Landshut War of Succession with further possessions to Württemberg .

Ecclesiastically, Bittelbronn was under the Mosbach monastery , which ceded the place to Württemberg together with the parish in Möckmühl in 1549 , whereby the Reformation was carried out in the place. In 1555 a separate cemetery was created in the village.

During the Thirty Years' War the place was almost depopulated, only one of the ancestral families survived the war. In 1836 Bittelbronn became an independent municipality, after which the town hall was built in 1838 and its own parish was established. In 1908 Bittelbronn received a water pipe. In the same year a new schoolhouse was built, after which the old schoolhouse from 1818 served as the town hall.

In 1933 and 1939 there were 220 inhabitants each. On March 1, 1972, Bittelbronn was incorporated into Möckmühl. On December 31, 2007, Bittelbronn had 171 inhabitants.
