The album title Bizarro World refers to the cartoon character Bizarro . In his world "Bizarro World" (or "Htrae") everything is reversed. In an interview, bassist John Gahlert explained that there are parallels between the world of the fictional character Bizarro and the earth of the present.

“It's about how twisted a lot in the world is. Most people simply eat what they are accused of. If they continued to think, many a lie would quickly collapse. Just take our health system , in which people benefit from the fact that people are sick. "

- John Gahlert

"Virus Jones" criticizes the pharmaceutical industry , which produces drugs that defeat diseases, but make the patient sick again through the side effects. “State of Decay” deals with the empty promises made by politicians . “Earthlings” is about the fact that many consider humans to be the crown of creation . "Renegade" calls for you to take your own destiny into your own hands in order to change the world.

reception

Bizarro World received various reviews from the trade press.

Reviewer Jens from the online magazine metal.de gave the album the top grade of 10 because the band “has provided impressive proof that you can write a long groove with commercial potential that does not ingratiate itself and can inspire you again and again even after well over fifty runs ". Christian Kruse from the German magazine Metal Hammer described Bizarro World as a high-class album with which Deadlock will finally reach for the stars.

The album was rated differently by the German magazine Rock Hard . While Volkmar Weber described Bizarro World as a “graceful, thoughtful and ambitious album away from the pigeonholes” and gave it eight out of ten points, Götz Kühnemund criticized that the album was “completely conceptualized and trimmed for the“ next big thing ”,” for which he awarded only five points. Samuel Stelzer from the online magazine metalnews.de, on the other hand, criticized Sabine Scherer's “similar-sounding, pop-like refrains ” and stated that the band “would lack the fresh wind that the musicians brought to the scene”. Stelzer gave 4.5 out of seven points.

With Bizarro World , Deadlock made it into the charts for the first time. The album entered the German album charts at number 61 .
