Bjørnehøj (Annisse)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bjørnehøj of Annisse in the Capital Region on the Danish island of Zealand was east of the lake Arresø situated, erected sand round hill of about 22.0 meters in diameter, which is a passage grave covered. It came from the Neolithic around 3000 BC. BC and was a megalithic plant of the funnel beaker culture (TBK). The passage grave is a form of Neolithic megalithic systems, which consists of a chamber and a structurally separated, lateral passage. This form is primarily found in Denmark, Germany and Scandinavia, as well as occasionally in France and the Netherlands. The name Bjørnehøj ( German  “Bear Hill” ) is more common in the context of prehistoric monuments in Denmark (e.g. in Mariagerfjord Municipality ).

The approximately 7.4 m long, 1.9 m wide and 1.3 m high chamber was oriented southwest-northeast. It consisted of 21 bearing stones (two on the north, one on the south and nine each on the east and west side). Two capstones were preserved. The corridor preserved over a length of about 2.25 m was originally about 5.3 m long, 0.9 m high and 0.6 to 0.7 m wide. It consisted of nine preserved bearing stones with intermediate masonry . The corridor floor was paved. The filling of the chamber was made of stone and earth. Unordered skeletal remains, pottery shards, a bone needle and animal teeth were found in the chamber.

The facility was destroyed before 1942; Today Bjørnehøjskolen is located there .

There are two more heavily disturbed passage graves nearby. One is oval and oriented north-south and lies in a remaining hill about 9 m in diameter and 2.0 m high. It was over 5 feet long and about 2 feet wide. The other is oriented northeast-southwest and rectangular and was located in a round hill about 16 m in diameter. Nine bearing stones and a capstone have been preserved. The remnant of the passage consists of two stones.
