Flower muscatel , a Russian variety called Zwetotschny, is a white wine variety. The wines have a strong nutmeg aroma, which is reminiscent of flower blossoms. The 'flower muscat' delivers fuller and luscious wines than the muscatel and is also suitable for making sweet wine. Due to its good resistance to fungi, the variety is one of the PiWi varieties.
origin
This variety was developed in 1947 at the All-Russian Viticulture Institute in Novocherkassk , southern Russia . The variety, which goes by the name of Zwetotschny (Russian "the blooming"), was crossed from Severny (= Seianetze Malengra × Vitis amurensis ) x ( Muscat Lunel × Muscat d'Alexandrie ) shortly after the Second World War . The Severny variety contains genes from Vitis amurensis . It comes from a breeding line for the cross-breeding of resistance to powdery mildew fungi . Nevertheless, in the botanical sense, the flower muscatel variety is a pure Vitis vinifera .

Characteristic features
- The shoot tip is very hairy white and the anthocyanin coloration is very weak.
- The branch growth is half upright.
- The leaf is pentagonal with 5 lobes, deeply indented and with a flat profile, blade slightly blistered, petiole open with a U-shaped base, underside of the leaf very hairy
- The grape is 18-25 cm long, loose berries, conical with 1-3 wings and has no grapes.
- The berries are round, small, green-yellow in color with uncolored pulp and an intense nutmeg taste.
Maturity : medium late
Expectations
Requires good locations and at least medium-sized soil. On poor soil there is a risk of deforestation (decline in shoot growth).
Yield
The yields are medium to high. A quantity regulation is necessary in some years.
Wine
The wines have a strong nutmeg aroma that is reminiscent of flower blossoms. The flower muscatel delivers fuller and luscious wines than the 'muscatel' and is also suitable for making sweet wine.
Advantages and disadvantages
advantages
- The variety is very resistant to winter frost.
- After the spring frost, cane regeneration is only moderately possible.
- It tolerates slightly lower late frost temperatures than other varieties.
- She has a good downy mildew tolerance, a medium good oidium tolerance and a good botrytis tolerance.
- The effort for plant protection can be drastically reduced.
- After autumn rainfall, the berries have little tendency to burst.
- The berries reach a high sugar content and tend to shrink when fully ripe.
- The variety is well suited for sweet wine production.
- A very upright shoot makes the foliage work easier.

Small areas were planted in Austria from 2013. The variety was only included in the Austrian variety register in 2013.
