Black Castle is the ruins of a tower house on the eastern side of Lough Gur in Irish County Limerick .
This is one of the castles used during the Desmond Rebellions and believed to be the place where the Earl of Desmond secured his authority in 1573 after removing his English clothes and changing into Irish robes on his return from London to Munster .
