Blackford ( Gaelic : Srath Gaoithe ) is a village in the Scottish region of Perth and Kinross . Blackford is located on Allan Water , a tributary of the Forth , about 5 km southwest of Auchterarder and 18 km northeast of Stirling in the traditional county of Perthshire .

In 1716 retreating Jacobites destroyed Blackford after the Battle of Sheriffmuir . However, the village was rebuilt.

economy

In the late Middle Ages , Blackford was considered the center of beer brewing and even the Scottish King James IV visited the village to taste the local beer. Blackford has been the location of the Tullibardine whiskey distillery since 1949 (there was previously a brewery in the buildings of the distillery). The Highland Spring mineral water is also bottled in Blackford .

traffic

Blackford is directly on the A9 , which connects Edinburgh with Thurso and is therefore well connected to the long-distance network. In 1848 the Scottish Central Railway set up a railway line between Perth and Stirling that also served Blackford station. However, this has since been abandoned.
