Blackwall is a small town on Gravelly Beach west of the Tamar River , 15 miles northwest of Launceston in Tasmania , Australia . It is located 221 km north of Hobart . In 2001 there were 521 inhabitants, in 2011 there were 618. By 2016 the number of inhabitants had fallen to 589.

Just like its namesake, Blackwall (London) on the Thames, Blackwall in Tasmania was also a center of shipbuilding. The second largest ship built in Tasmania in the 19th century, the 547 tonne Bark Harpley , was launched in 1847.
