Blanca Ovelar

Blanca Ovelar (born September 2, 1957 in Concepción ) is a Paraguayan politician ( Partido Colorado ). Under Nicanor Duarte Frutos , she was Minister for Education and Culture. In 2008 she was her party's presidential candidate.

Life

In 1981 she worked as a primary school teacher. She later studied in Asunción and graduated as a psychologist from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción in 1991 . From April 2002 to July 2007 she was Paraguay's Minister for Education and Culture. As the successor of her party colleague Nicanor Duarte Frutos, she applied as President of Paraguay in April 2008; in the elections she was defeated by Fernando Lugo .

Blanca Ovelar is married to Ramón Duarte Rodas and has three children.
