Blaq Poet

Wilbur Bass (* 1970), known as Blaq Poet , is an American rapper from Queensbridge , New York .

Career

Blaq Poet first appeared on the song Beat You Down from Bridge Wars 1987, a diss track against KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions . In 1991 Blaq Poet and DJ Hot Day started a duo called PhD and released their debut Without Warning on Tuff City Records. After a few singles and an EP, they separated in 1996. Blaq Poet founded the group Screwball with KL, Hostyle and Solo . They released two albums and a compilation before Blaq Poet released solo Rewind: Deja Screw in 2006, produced by DJ Premier among others . Blaq Poet signed with DJ Premier's label Year Round and released Tha Blaqprint in 2009 , again mainly produced by DJ Premier.
