The Blasheimer Markt is a large fair near Blasheim . The event takes place annually on the weekend of the first Friday in September and runs from Thursday to Sunday. The fairground is located directly on Bundesstraße 65 .

history

Originally developed from a cattle market in Lübbecke , the Blasheimer Markt (or BlaMa , as it is also popularly known) takes place over four days. It was during the plague laid in the Middle Ages by Lübbecke by Blasheim to prevent the spread of the epidemic to contain and has since then been a year in Blasheim instead. It is characterized by a variety of events, such as the historic cattle market - which has since shrunk to a pure poultry market - on Friday and the fireworks on Thursday. Mainly the actual fair with the rides and marquees offers great attractions. With a visitor number of 300,000 to 400,000, the Blasheimer Markt is one of the most important folk festivals in East Westphalia-Lippe . In 2019 the market took place for the 450th time.

The date is based on the Catholic holiday Nativity of Mary (September 8), since the fair originally the parish fair of 1514 finished Blasheimer Marienkirche was. The market traditionally begins with a large fireworks display on Thursday evening.

One curious consequence of the municipal reform is that the fairground itself but in the area of the district Obermehnen , but as to 1973 peasantry , is part of the municipality Blasheim. Both are districts of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Lübbecke in the Minden-Lübbecke district .
