The blue sailfin doctor ( Zebrasoma xanthurum ), also known as the red sea doctor fish or yellow tail sail doctor fish , is a species from the doctor fish family .
The Blue Sailfin Doctor lives in all the seas around the Arabian Peninsula , such as the Red Sea , the Gulf of Aden and the Persian Gulf .
As with all doctor fish species, the body of the blue sailfin doctor is flattened at the side. It also has a high dorsal and anal fin that can be set up in an imposing manner. The body is deeply dark blue with a yellow caudal fin. He also has a very nice scale coloring on the face, which, depending on the angle of incidence and the color of the light, brings out a nice dot pattern, which can vary in intensity depending on the mood, which is probably due to the effect of the constructive interferences of the light and on the Tyndall Effect is due. It reaches a length of up to 25 cm. The scalpels or horn blades typical of doctor fish are located on the root of the tail .
The diurnal fish mainly eats algae. Adult fish live individually, as a couple, or form together with the Indian Segelflossendoktor ( zebrasoma desjardinii ) and the Acanthurus Nigrofuscus ( Acanthurus nigrofuscus ) loosely squads.
Aquarium keeping
Doctor fish are generally very delicate pets in aquariums . The Blue Sailfin Doctor, usually called the Red Sea Doctor by aquarists, only shows its dark blue color when it is comfortable. Animals that are not comfortable fade away. Most of the fish sold in stores are wild-caught as it is very difficult to breed.
