features

Young fish in the post-larval stage

Like all representatives of the surgeon fish , the Indian sail surgeon fish also has a laterally flattened body that can reach a length of up to 40 centimeters. He puts his large dorsal and anal fins upright while he is showing off . It has a terminal mouth that is somewhat pointed. Vertical, yellowish stripes run on the dark gray-brown colored flanks. The bottom and the head are dotted. During the mating behavior, color changes can occur in which the contrast between the light and dark head stripes increases. The Indian sailfin doctor prefers to eat algae , which it plucks from the substrate with its terminal mouth .

Aquarium keeping

The Indian sailfin doctor is a demanding carer in the saltwater aquarium . In particular, he needs a lot of swimming space to feel comfortable. However, with its pronounced swimming instinct, it brings a lot of restlessness to the fish community in an aquarium. All animals offered in stores are caught in the wild .
