Bliesheimer Mill

The Bliesheimer Mühle is a largely preserved watermill on the Liblarer Mühlengraben , a side channel of the Erft , in the Bliesheim district of Erftstadt . It has been restored by the owner for some time. After the mill wheel has been renewed and the grinder has been restored, grain will be ground again and bread baked. The mill is entered under No. 23 in the list of architectural monuments in Erftstadt .

history

The village Bliesheim already in 1059 in a by Pope Nicholas II. Confirmed deed of possessions of the Cologne Archbishop Anno to the Cologne pen St. Marie degrees mentioned. This monastery then acquired the local fron yard and the associated ban mill from knight Gerhard Kolf von Ahrweiler around 1260 . So the mill location is very old. The house with attached mill dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, the farm wing from the 19th century. After several changes of ownership after secularization , the mill has been in the possession of the current owner family since 1857. The last restoration of the mill wheel was carried out in 1942. The mill then operated as a grist mill until the early 1970s .

Building description

The hipped roof of the two-storey half - timbered house was again covered with the Rhenish hollow pans, which conform to historic monuments . The compartments between the uprights were again filled with wickerwork and grout with a clay-sand-straw mixture . The living area has Cologne ceilings . A bakery was set up in the rear of the building, which has now been used as the living area.

The mill was a mittelschlächtiges water wheel driven, the the shape of a Strauberrades had (with Straeubig = vertical blades). There is a double grinder on the ground floor and another grinder on the first floor . The mill also had an electric motor that worked until 1973.

restoration

The building was refurbished by the owners as early as 1989. It remains the grinder. For the wood of the medium-sized mill wheel, especially for the wheel shaft, which has to be sawn from a 4.50 meter long oak trunk, around 20,000 euros are required. The old fittings are still usable. Half a million euros are estimated for the entire restoration. Donors and sponsors are to be obtained through a support association. In addition, one counts on state subsidies.

The Bliesheimer Mühle is part of the Rhineland Nature Park . Its information center, the Gymnicher Mühle , is on the opposite side of the northwestern edge of Erftstadt on the "small Erft". The mills are marketed for tourism by the Mühlenverband Rhein-Erft-Rur. The Bliesheimer Mühle is one of eight partially preserved mills in the urban area of ​​Erftstadt. Seven of them are on Mühlenroute 2, which begins at the Bliesheimer Mühle. None of the other mills still have their grinder. A farm shop is attached to the mill . It can be viewed during shop opening hours.
