The block chamber of Battin was a megalithic tomb, probably of the Neolithic Funnel Beaker Culture (TBK) near Battin , a part of the municipality of Brüssow in the Uckermark district ( Brandenburg ). It was archaeologically examined in 1896 and later destroyed.

location

The grave was 1 km southwest of Battin on the Trendelberg. At the northern exit of the village in Mühlenberg was the large stone grave Battin .

description

The system had a round mound with a diameter of 18 m and a height of 2 m. On the hill was a round enclosure made of 13 stones with a diameter of 11 m. Around the center of the hill was a north-south oriented burial chamber. Its top ended with the top of the hill, which means that the system can be referred to as a block chamber . The chamber consisted of five wall panels that were between 25 and 35 cm thick. The western long side had two wall panels. The cover plate was missing. The floor was paved with small slabs of red sandstone . The chamber had a length of 1.25 m, a width of 0.65 m and a height of 0.8 m.

At the time of the investigation, the burial chamber had already been robbed, but burial remains were discovered outside at the southwest and northeast corners. It was human skeletal remains from several individuals that were not examined in detail. At offerings a thick nackiges were Feuersteinbeil and a round scrapers and several fragments of flint found. The finds initially remained in private ownership and later moved to the Märkisches Museum in Berlin .
