Ingeburg Nilius

Ingeburg Nilius (born October 28, 1927 in Halle (Saale) , † November 18, 1984 in Greifswald ) was a German prehistorian .

Life

Ingeburg Nilius came from Halle (Saale) and was already interested in prehistoric topics as a student. After graduating from high school, she worked as an unskilled worker at the Landesmuseum Halle from 1947 to 1949 . In 1949 she began studying prehistory, history and geology at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In addition, she learned Nordic languages. In 1953 Nilius presented her diploma thesis on the subject of the various economic forms in Sweden during the 3rd millennium vd Ztr . She then worked at the Rostock City Museum , but in 1957 she moved to the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald , where she took up an assistant position. In 1967 she did her doctorate on the subject of the Neolithic in Mecklenburg at the time and with special attention to the funnel beaker culture . Nilius led numerous excavations, worked in the preservation of monuments in the Greifswald district and in teacher training in history. In 1969 Nilius became the custodian of the prehistoric collection of the Ernst Moritz Arndt University.

Nilius' doctorate is still a standard work on the Neolithic in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . In addition to numerous specialist articles, she also published translations of Swedish monographs.
