Blohm & Voss P 194 was a type of aircraft designed by Blohm & Voss in 1944 . The design did not get beyond the drawing board stage . The P in the name stands for project.
particularities
The drive of the P 194 should consist of a so-called mixed drive, i.e. a jet engine and a piston engine . The calculated speed here was 860 km / h. With this mixed drive, the disadvantages of the Messerschmitt Me 262 should be avoided. As a pure jet aircraft, the Me 262 was very vulnerable, especially in the take-off and landing phases , as the engines provided relatively little thrust at low speeds. In addition, jet engines react relatively slowly to load changes. These disadvantages made the Me 262 easy prey for enemy fighters , which is why additional fighters had to be deployed to protect the landing machines. The United States took up the concept and developed, for example, the Ryan FR and the Curtiss XF15C .
Due to the asymmetrical arrangement of the aircraft components, the view of the pilot was not restricted by the propeller . Another advantage of the asymmetrical design is that the torques created when using a propeller can be better balanced. At Blohm & Voss, this design feature ran like a red thread from Blohm & Voss BV 141 through the designs P 177 , P 178 , P 194 and P 204 .
variants
Several variants of the P 194 were planned to meet the planned range of uses as a dive bomber , fighter aircraft , destroyer or reconnaissance aircraft .
- BV P.194.01-02: An MK 103 was replaced by an MK 412 and the jet engine was installed below the cockpit.
- BV P.194.02-01: Version 02 represents the standard version described in the table.
- BV P.194.03-01: The jet engine was installed directly behind the cockpit. The tail unit was cranked and the front of the cockpit changed.
- BV P.194.00-101: In the two-seat reconnaissance version, the pilot and the observer / radio operator sat back to back. The tail unit was cranked.
